EMSL Westmont Now Offers NIOSH 5040, Diesel Particulate Matter Analysis in Air (DPM)
Westmont, NJ – September 9, 2004 - EMSL Analytical, the largest network of accredited environmental testing laboratories in the nation, announced today it has included the characterization of diesel particulate matter [DPM] to its portfolio of analytical services.
"There is growing concern about pollution from diesel engines and the potential health hazards caused by diesel particulate matter [DPM]," states Leslie Boggs, national director of marketing and public relations for EMSL. “Several states are implementing testing programs for diesel vehicles to help reduce emissions and promote cleaner diesel engines.”
Diesel particulate matter, or DPM, consists of tiny particles present in diesel engine exhaust that can readily penetrate into the deepest recesses of the lungs. Some diesel particulate matter [DPM] exhaust filters may result in increased production of nitrogen dioxide [NO2] gas. Numerous scientific studies indicate that exposure to diesel exhaust can cause lung damage, respiratory problems, premature death and lung cancer.
"EMSL’s assurance of analytical excellence, coupled with our commitment to continually increase our analytical capabilities, positions us as a valuable resource for federal, state, or other local agencies to turn to for their DPM requirements,” Leslie Boggs said in closing.
EMSL will provide rental of the pump required to perform this test, at no charge. The cost for a DPM analysis is $50 for standard 5-10 day turn-around, $100 for 72 hour, and $150 for 24 hour.
