Description:

Test Type: Forensic and Failure Analysis

Case Study: Cause of child illness

A child became ill with stomach cramps during a trip to a museum. The parents assumed that the cause must have been the guide ropes that lead people throughout the exhibits since the child had one such rope in his mouth prior to convulsions and vomiting.

Analysis of the vomitus along with a portion of the rope and some items that the child had access to revealed that the museum had little to do with the child’s plight. Residue consistent with yellow crayon was found.  The little boy had been coloring with that crayon earlier in the day.
