Title EMSL Radiochemistry Laboratory Offers Radionuclide in Soil Testing
Introduction EMSL Analytical, Inc. provides testing service to identify radionuclides in soil.

Cinnaminson, NJ, November 14, 2016

Soil can be radiologically contaminated by either naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) or man-made radionuclides. These radioactive materials can affect crops and drinking water, which can pose health issues to the human body. EMSL Analytical, Inc.’s radiological laboratory division now offers radionuclides in soil testing packages.

Uranium-238, Uranium-234, Thorium-232 and their daughter progenies are naturally occurring in rocks. When the radioactive-enriched rocks break down, a majority of radionuclides will mainly remain in the soil formed from these rocks. The most concerning of man-made radioactive materials include the nuclear fuels Uranium-235, Plutonium-238/239, Americium-241, Curium-243/244 and other synthetic radionuclides, including Hydrogen-3, Cobalt-60, Strontium-89/90, Zirconium-95, Tc-99, Ruthenium-103/106, Iodine-131, Cesium-137, Lanthanum-140 and Cerium-144.

“Laboratory testing is key in determining if your soil contains radioactive materials,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “At EMSL, we created specific packages that identify numerous isotopes each requiring different testing methods and detection limits. Our laboratory has different pricing and turnaround times available to help meet specific testing needs.”

EMSL’s testing methods include Gamma Spectroscopy, Alpha Spectroscopy, Beta Counting by Gas Flow Proportional Counting (GFPC) and Beta Counting by Liquid Scintillation. To learn more about EMSL’s radionuclide in soil testing service options, please call (800) 220-3675 or email info@EMSL.com.
