Last month, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall of thousands of children’s hair clips due to a violation of the federal ban on lead paint and lead poisoning hazards. The metal hair clips were sold in multipacks of 120 through a major online retailer from April 2024 through September of that same year. The clips were manufactured in China, and consumers are advised to immediately take them away from children and to stop using them.

According to the recall notice:

The painted hair clips contain levels of lead that exceed the federal lead paint ban, posing a lead poisoning hazard to children. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health issues. 

If a child is exposed to enough lead for a protracted period of time, permanent damage to the central nervous system can occur. This could result in learning disorders, developmental defects, and other long-term health problems.
