Title Texas Floods Leave Behind Devastated Communities & Homes and Buildings with Exposure Hazards
Introduction EMSL Analytical offers indoor environmental quality testing services, sampling supplies, test kits, inspection tools, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to identify and mitigate microbial and chemical exposure risks following flood damage.

Dallas, Texas, July 10, 2025

Deadly floods ravaged parts of Texas, including Kerr County, earlier this month. The disaster caused over 100 deaths and left behind many destroyed or damaged properties. Federal disaster assistance has been announced by the White House as part of a Major Disaster Declaration to help ensure that critical resources needed to help Texans rebuild and recover from these devastating floods can take place.

As people are faced with grieving, it’s also time to begin cleaning up the property damage and filing insurance claims. It is important for residents of flooded communities to recognize that many homes, businesses, and buildings that were damaged may now pose health and safety concerns. This is due to the fact that standing water and wet materials are a breeding ground for microorganisms, including viruses, bacteria, and mold. These organisms can be on surfaces and penetrate deep into soaked, porous materials. Floodwaters also often contain sewage and chemical contaminants such as fuels, fertilizers, and industrial chemicals.

“Many of the contaminants that are present in damaged homes and buildings can be dermal and inhalation exposure risks,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President, Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “EMSL Analytical, with laboratories in Houston, Carrollton, and dozens more across the country, is available to help property owners, facility managers, tenants, and others identify issues associated with mold, bacteria, viruses, sewage, and chemical contaminants. We also offer lead and asbestos testing services, two very common exposure risks in properties undergoing cleanup and repair activities following storm damage. Along with laboratory services, EMSL provides sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, building inspection tools, air monitoring instruments, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to help in the rebuilding efforts.”
