Title Protecting Families from Mold Growing in Homes and Buildings
Introduction EMSL Analytical provides laboratory testing services, sampling supplies, test kits, building inspection tools, and air monitoring instruments to identify mold, moisture, and other indoor environmental quality (IEQ) concerns.

Cinnaminson, New Jersey, August 27, 2025

Mold can be found in both the indoor and outdoor environments. It is a natural part of the environment; however, exposure to elevated levels of mold in the air people breathe can cause issues.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that mold is usually not a problem indoors unless mold spores land on a wet or damp area - allowing them to begin to grow. Common sources of indoor moisture include roof leaks, condensation due to high humidity or cold spots in a building, leaks from plumbing fixtures, humidification systems, sprinkler systems, and floods.

“Left unchecked, mold growing indoors can cause more than just unpleasant odors, it can cause serious damage to a home or building,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “Mold can destroy belongings and furniture, and it can rot wood. Given enough time, it can even result in structural damage. Exposure to elevated levels of mold can also cause a myriad of health concerns. Allergic reactions to mold are common, and it can cause asthma attacks in some asthmatics. Mold can also be an irritant, affecting the eyes, skin, nose, throat, and lungs. Some types of mold found in water-damaged buildings are even known to cause infections in people with weakened immune systems.”

EMSL Analytical, with laboratories located across North America, provides environmental testing for mold and other IEQ concerns, such as bacteria, radon, asbestos, lead, and chemicals. They also offer sampling supplies, easy-to-use test kits, air monitoring instruments, building inspection tools, and personal protective equipment to identify and mitigate these types of exposure risks. EMSL has even sponsored an educational video about mold growing in homes that can be seen at: https://youtu.be/QkPh0bDd6oY
