Title Resources to Help Prevent Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
Introduction EMSL Analytical provides air testing services, sampling supplies, and monitoring instruments to detect exposure hazards to carbon monoxide and other deadly gases in homes, schools, factories, and businesses.

Cinnaminson, New Jersey, December 29, 2025

Earlier this year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a new factsheet: “Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: Protect Your Family and Yourself.” This is essential information as carbon monoxide, or CO, is an odorless, colorless, and highly toxic gas.

Because people cannot see it, smell it, or taste it, CO can be dangerous before anyone even realizes it is there. The effects of CO exposure can vary depending on one’s age, overall health, how long they are exposed, and the concentration of gas.

Early symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning can feel like the flu, but without a fever.

Symptoms may include:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Weakness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Confusion

"At high levels, carbon monoxide poisoning can be deadly,” said Jody Thomason, Vice President of Products/Corporate Purchasing for EMSL Analytical, Inc. “In the indoor environment, any fuel-burning appliance can produce carbon monoxide, especially if it’s not properly installed, maintained, or ventilated. These sources of carbon monoxide can be found in many homes, schools, and businesses. Fortunately, there are a number of simple steps, like installing CO detectors, which are shared by the EPA in their new factsheet to keep families and building occupants safe.”

To help prevent tragedies involving carbon monoxide and other combustion gases, EMSL Analytical provides air testing services. They also offer air monitoring and data logging field instruments to help prevent illnesses and deaths associated with toxic gases and other exposure hazards. EMSL has even sponsored an educational video about the EPA’s new factsheet on carbon monoxide poisoning prevention that can be seen at: https://youtu.be/pIaEXDxm_hs
