Title Protecting Construction Workers from Respirable Crystalline Silica
Introduction EMSL Analytical provides laboratory testing services, sampling supplies, air monitoring instruments, personal protective equipment, and other resources to protect workers and help employers maintain regulatory compliance.

Cinnaminson, New Jersey, January 16, 2026

EMSL Analytical, Inc., one of the nation’s leading environmental, industrial hygiene, and materials testing laboratories, is raising awareness about the dangers of respirable crystalline silica (RCS) exposure and the resources available to help protect construction workers and others in high-risk industries.

Respirable crystalline silica is a common mineral found in materials such as concrete, stone, mortar, and sand. When these materials are cut, ground, or drilled, tiny silica particles can become airborne and easily inhaled. Prolonged exposure to RCS can cause serious and sometimes fatal diseases, including silicosis, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and kidney disease.

“Protecting workers from respirable crystalline silica starts with accurate data and the right tools,” said Joseph Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “Our laboratories provide silica testing and analysis, while our expanded line of air monitoring equipment, sampling supplies, and personal protective equipment helps companies maintain compliance and promote a safer workplace.”

EMSL’s silica protection solutions include:

  • Laboratory Analysis: Accurate quantification of crystalline silica using NIOSH, OSHA, and other recognized analytical methods.
  • Air Monitoring Instruments: Real-time and integrated air sampling pumps and detectors for construction and industrial environments.
  • Sampling Supplies: Pre-weighed filters, cassettes, and calibration tools for personal and area sampling.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Respirators, protective clothing, and accessories designed to reduce exposure risk.
  • Training & Consultation: Expert guidance on sampling protocols, regulatory compliance, and exposure mitigation strategies.

With dozens of laboratory locations across North America, EMSL Analytical provides local access to accredited testing services and nationwide logistics support. The company remains committed to helping employers protect workers’ health, reduce liability, and meet regulatory obligations related to silica exposure.
