Thousands of Junior Tennis Racquets Recalled Over Phthalate Exposure Risks |

Toronto, Ontario, February 4, 2026
Health Canada has announced the recall of more than 2,700 junior tennis racquets after detecting phthalates in the butt cap of nine different models. The affected racquets, imported from China, were sold between July 2022 and July 2025. Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled products immediately and return them for a replacement.
According to Health Canada’s recall notice, studies suggest that exposure to certain phthalates may cause reproductive and developmental issues in young children, particularly when soft vinyl products containing these chemicals are sucked or chewed for extended periods.
“Although the full extent of health effects related to phthalate exposure is still being studied, some phthalates are strongly suspected endocrine disruptors,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “Any potential exposure to elevated levels of phthalates is concerning, especially for children. Both Canada and the United States have regulations that limit the use of these substances in children’s products where direct handling or mouthing could lead to exposure.”
EMSL Analytical’s team of scientists offers comprehensive material and product testing for phthalates and other regulated substances. These services not only help safeguard consumers but also assist manufacturers, importers, retailers, and regulatory agencies in maintaining compliance and avoiding costly recalls.
