Title Ongoing Concerns Over Lead Water Service Lines and Potential Drinking Water Contamination
Introduction EMSL Analytical offers lead and other heavy metal testing services, sampling supplies, and user-friendly test kits to identify exposure hazards from water, air, soil, paint, dust, and bulk material samples.

Cinnaminson, New Jersey, February 5, 2026

Over the last couple of years, there has been renewed attention to the public health risks associated with aging water service lines made from lead. As communities across the country work to identify and replace legacy lead pipes, health advocates have been emphasizing the importance of proactive testing to protect households, schools, and businesses from potential lead exposure.

For decades, lead was commonly used in water service lines, plumbing fixtures, solder, and other distribution system components. Over time, these pipes can corrode, allowing lead particles or dissolved lead to leach into drinking water. Even low levels of lead exposure can be harmful. This is particularly true for children, pregnant women, and other vulnerable groups.

“The reality is there is no safe level of lead in drinking water, according to public health authorities,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President, Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “While corrosion control measures can reduce lead levels, they do not eliminate the risk entirely, especially in older systems where lead pipes are still present. Regular water testing is one of the most effective ways for property owners to identify potential hazards early and take necessary action.”

To help in this effort, EMSL Analytical offers comprehensive lead-in-water testing services, including EPA-approved methods for analyzing drinking water samples. The laboratory also supports community-wide testing programs, compliance monitoring, and investigations related to lead pipe replacement projects.

As the national effort to replace lead service lines accelerates, both homeowners and public officials need reliable data. EMSL is committed to providing fast, accurate results, so communities can make informed decisions that safeguard public health.
